Travel Occupational Therapy Assistant - Certified job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel COTA responsibilities:

  • Assist Occupational Therapists in implementing treatment plans designed to help patients achieve greater independence and improve their ability to perform daily tasks.
  • Guide patients through therapeutic activities and exercises, providing encouragement and support to ensure proper technique and maximize benefits.
  • Monitor patients' progress during therapy sessions, reporting any changes or concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
  • Document patients' activities, progress, and responses to treatment accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Educate patients and their families on exercises and techniques to continue therapy at home and promote long-term health and well-being.
  • Assist in the fabrication and fitting of adaptive equipment and assistive devices to aid patients in performing tasks and enhancing their quality of life.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment areas, ensuring a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Transport patients to and from therapy sessions, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Assist in conducting patient and family education programs to improve understanding of conditions and the importance of occupational therapy.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including Occupational Therapists, nurses, and physical therapists, to provide comprehensive care for patients.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development to stay current with advancements in occupational therapy practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of occupational therapy practice.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients and their families throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, maintaining inventory of therapy supplies, and managing patient records.
  • Supervise and mentor occupational therapy aides and students, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
