Travel Intermediate Care Unit Registered Nurse job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel IMCU RN responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, to detect any changes in condition.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to protocols.
  • Provide care for patients with moderate to severe illnesses, who require more intensive monitoring and intervention than general medical-surgical units.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures, ensuring patients' comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Document patients' medical histories, assessments, treatments, and progress accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Educate patients and their families on medical conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing advanced life support and other critical interventions as necessary.
  • Provide post-operative care for patients recovering from surgery, including monitoring for complications and managing pain.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families during their stay in the Intermediate Care Unit.
  • Coordinate patient transfers to other departments or facilities as required, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in intermediate care nursing practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all nursing interventions, patient responses, and any changes in condition.
