Travel Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel PCU RN responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, to detect any changes promptly.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to protocols.
  • Provide comprehensive care for patients with complex medical conditions, who require more frequent monitoring and nursing care than in a general medical-surgical unit.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Educate patients and their families on disease management, treatment options, and post-discharge care to promote health and recovery.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures, ensuring patients' comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Document patients' medical histories, assessments, treatments, and progress accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families, helping them cope with illness and hospitalization.
  • Coordinate patient transfers to other departments or facilities as required, ensuring seamless continuity of care.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in progressive care nursing practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all nursing interventions, patient responses, and any changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to support patients' rehabilitation and recovery goals.
  • Manage emergency situations by providing advanced life support and other critical interventions as necessary.
