Travel Surgical Tech job duties

  • Prepare the operating room by sterilizing and arranging surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies according to the surgical procedure's requirements.
  • Assist in preparing patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites, and transporting them to the operating room.
  • Ensure a sterile environment by adhering to strict infection control protocols and maintaining sterile fields during surgical procedures.
  • Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures, anticipating their needs to ensure smooth operation flow.
  • Operate and maintain surgical equipment, such as suction machines, diagnostic devices, and sterilizers, ensuring they function correctly during procedures.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and overall condition during surgery, reporting any changes to the surgical team promptly.
  • Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after the surgery to ensure no items are left inside the patient.
  • Assist in the application of dressings, bandages, and other post-operative care items to surgical sites as directed by the surgical team.
  • Document surgical procedures, patient information, and any complications accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care before, during, and after surgery.
  • Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment after procedures, ensuring they are ready for future use.
  • Educate patients and their families on pre-operative and post-operative care instructions, answering any questions and providing emotional support.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development to stay current with advancements in surgical technology and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of surgical practice.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the operating room, including inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
