Travel Post Anesthesia Care Unit Registered Nurse job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel PACU RN responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, as they recover from anesthesia.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as prescribed by physicians to manage pain and prevent complications.
  • Provide care for patients post-surgery, ensuring they regain consciousness safely and comfortably.
  • Assess patients for any signs of adverse reactions to anesthesia, such as nausea, vomiting, or respiratory distress, and respond promptly.
  • Educate patients and their families about post-operative care, including pain management, wound care, and activity restrictions.
  • Document patients' medical histories, assessments, treatments, and progress accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Ensure patients' comfort and safety by adjusting equipment and repositioning them as needed during the recovery period.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families, helping them cope with post-operative recovery.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures as necessary, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Coordinate patient transfers to other units or discharge them home when they are stable and ready.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in post-anesthesia care and nursing practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all nursing interventions, patient responses, and any changes in condition.
