Travel Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel LD RN responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess the vital signs of both mother and fetus during labor, ensuring any changes are promptly addressed.
  • Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and epidural anesthesia as prescribed by physicians to manage pain and facilitate labor.
  • Assist obstetricians and midwives during labor and delivery, providing necessary instruments and support.
  • Educate expectant mothers and their families on the labor and delivery process, pain management options, and postnatal care.
  • Document all patient interactions, assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to mothers and families throughout labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic tests, such as fetal heart rate monitoring and ultrasound, to ensure the health of both mother and baby.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and lactation consultants, to provide comprehensive care.
  • Assist with newborn care immediately after delivery, including Apgar scoring, initial physical assessments, and facilitating skin-to-skin contact.
  • Educate new mothers on breastfeeding techniques, newborn care, and postpartum recovery to promote health and well-being.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Manage emergency situations, such as postpartum hemorrhage or fetal distress, by providing advanced life support and critical interventions as necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in obstetric and neonatal nursing practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of patient care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all nursing interventions, patient responses, and any changes in condition.
