Travel Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel PICU RN responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess the vital signs and overall condition of critically ill pediatric patients, identifying and responding to any changes promptly.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as prescribed by pediatric intensivists, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to protocols.
  • Provide specialized care for pediatric patients with complex and life-threatening conditions, including respiratory support, pain management, and nutritional support.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with pediatric intensivists, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Educate and support parents and families on the care of their critically ill children, including treatment plans, procedures, and coping strategies.
  • Document patients' medical histories, assessments, treatments, and progress accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Operate and maintain specialized pediatric equipment, such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumps, ensuring proper function and safety.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to parents and families, helping them cope with the stress of having a critically ill child.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures, ensuring patients' comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Coordinate care and communication between different departments, such as radiology, surgery, and laboratory, to ensure comprehensive care for pediatric patients.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in pediatric critical care nursing practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of pediatric care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all nursing interventions, patient responses, and any changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with social workers, child life specialists, and other team members to support the holistic care and well-being of pediatric patients and their families.
