Travel Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse job duties

While job duties may vary depending on the facility you work with, here are some common Travel NICU RN responsibilities:

  • Monitor and assess the vital signs and overall condition of neonates, identifying and responding to any changes promptly.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as prescribed by neonatologists, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to protocols.
  • Provide specialized care for premature and critically ill newborns, including respiratory support, feeding assistance, and thermoregulation.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Educate and support parents and families on the care of their newborns, including feeding, hygiene, and recognizing signs of distress.
  • Document neonates' medical histories, assessments, treatments, and progress accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
  • Operate and maintain specialized neonatal equipment, such as incubators, ventilators, and monitoring devices, ensuring proper function and safety.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to parents and families, helping them cope with the stress of having a critically ill newborn.
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures, ensuring neonates' comfort and safety throughout the process.
  • Coordinate care and communication between different departments, such as radiology, surgery, and laboratory, to ensure comprehensive care for neonates.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in neonatal nursing and intensive care practices.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards in all aspects of neonatal care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all nursing interventions, neonates' responses, and any changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with social workers, lactation consultants, and other specialists to support the holistic care and well-being of neonates and their families.
